  Vodazone - USER GUIDE : SMS Gateway Integration

By becoming a member, the Vodacom Developer Zone will make available to you all the tools and resources you will require to successfully develop your application. Offering you a personalised selection of resources, at your fingertips, for the development of your SMS application.

Access to your personal Developer Portal home page will be given, once registration has been successfully completed, giving you access to a host of features, which include:

  • Technical documentation and specifications for integration
  • SMS purchasing and voucher administration
  • Global SMS Coverage
  • User management
  • Extensive Reporting
  • SDK's
  • SMSC Feature Sets (Binary messaging, Unicode, Concatenation and more)
  • Support desk and FAQ's

You will have access to the creative minds of local and international wireless developers and programmers, additionally the Developer Zone will stay abreast of new technologies as they emerge, providing developers with ongoing support and information.

Vodacom Developer Zone allows you direct web access to a core mobile data delivery platform and international SMS gateway through a series of API's (Application Programming Interfaces). Choose one or more of the following connections to suit your needs:

SMPP SMS - For those with SMPP clients installed, we have a dedicated connection, simply create a test account and start sending through our global gateways. *Minimum volumes required for SMPP

HTTP/S SMS - One of the simpler forms of communication to our API. Connect to our global SMSC infrastructure, using either HTTP POST or GET.

SMTP SMS - Deliver your text messages to our global SMS gateway from your mail client or server.

FTP SMS - For those familiar with FTP, and who have FTP clients. Build up a text file based on an existing database of recipients and upload to our FTP site for a single bulk delivery.

XML SMS - Connect through our XML interface with its own set of DTD's. Supporting Text, Flash, Unicode and 8-bit messaging.

COM OBJECT SMS - Vodacom COM API object's rich set of methods and definitions make it easy for a user to integrate SMS sending into your programs or ASP pages.

Registering for one of any of the connections below, will allow all six to be available to you!

SMPP
If you have an SMPP Client, and wish to connect to Vodacom Developer Zone's SMPP platform, you can create a test account today. Supports connections via SMPP using the global SMPP 3.3 standard, giving you the ability to deliver through our Developer Zone's international gateway, via our SMPP Server. Make use of the powerful administrative tools, such as sub-user management, extensive message reports and more.

HTTP/S
Connect to the wireless world through a simple integration, enabling you to send SMS messages to your clients, staff or user database around the globe. Send mail to your bulk lists or configure your database to send SMS messages with any trigger event. Supports Text, Flash, Unicode and 8-bit SMS messaging and is immediately multicast messaging enabled, allowing integration to any front-end or legacy system with a direct connection to our global gateway.

SMTP
Quite often the only way of getting a legacy server to send SMS via the Vodacom Developer Zone's Gateway is via a server generated email. Our SMTP API connection facilitates this operation. Fully supporting Text, Flash, Unicode and 8-bit SMS messaging as well as templating and batch sending.

FTP
Intended for clients who can build up a text file based on an existing database of recipients. This text file will be uploaded to Vodacom Developer Zone's FTP site for a single delivery. Create an excel spreadsheet, export it and upload to our web servers! Well suited for once-off, high volume message dispatches - either as a single message to all recipients or multiple personalised messages to each recipient.

XML
If you wish to connect to Vodacom via XML, you can connect through our XML interface with its own set of DTD's. Only XML over http is currently supported. Vodacom Developer Zone's API is immediately multicast messaging enabled, allowing integration to any front-end or legacy system, with a direct connection into Vodacom Developer Zone's global gateways.

COM OBJECT
Vodacom Developer Zone's http specification describes how a user can interact with our Developer Zone via the HTTP or HTTPS communication protocols. If you are connecting from a Windows-based programming environment, you can use the Vodacom Developer Zone's COM Object to connect to our SMS delivery platform. Since the COM object interface is fully documented any COM enabled programming language can be used.
